As our name suggests, providing nourishment has always been one of our primary focuses. We know that nourishment is critical for a child’s development. The stark reality is that many of Haiti’s most vulnerable, the children, may face days without a single meal. Hunger was a real issue at L’Ecole Communiraire Jean-Jacque Dessalines de Cabois (Cabois Community School).
Working in collaboration with the school’s directors, we introduced a 3 day per week feeding program at the start of the school year in the Summer of 2016. The benefits of this program were immense; attention spans increased, attendance rates rose, and parents were relieved. Seeing the success of this program, we expanded this program to 5 days each week in the Fall of 2016. Project Nourish currently provides 900 meals per week to all of the students and teachers at the school. The Feeding Program runs year round, ensuring that the children in the community receive a meal even when school is not in session.
